Summer of My North Korean Soldier

Things I've learned about South Korea:
1. I learned from the tour of the Joint Security Area (JSA) the extent of the conflict between North and South Korea.  Even after the end of the Cold War, South Korea is still in danger of an attack by North Korea either by artillery capable of reaching Suwon or through underground tunnels.  The hills that the bus drove over to reach the Military Demarcation Line are covered in landmines.  Even parts of the Han River are barricaded with razor-wire to keep North Korean spies from climbing up the river banks.
2.Half of South Koreans have the family name "Lee".  About 20% have the family name "Kim".  10% have the family name "Park".
3. Don't leave home without an umbrella.

Project status as of 15 July 2013:

The exploded assembly drawings of the pelvis and the right leg of the DRC Hubo are complete.  I still need to generate the bill of materials for each step to post to the DRC Hubo Wiki and verify that the fasteners used in each step are accurate.  The build steps may need to be changed slightly to account for inserting electronics or routing wires.

North of the border

I say: pass the border on the left hand side...

Things I've learned about myself:

1. I'm slowly becoming more adventurous and doing things that I never thought I'd be doing (such as going to the DMZ or spending entire weekends in Seoul).
2. I can run from the dormitory in Hwa-am-Dong to the GS25 market in Jeonmin-Dong in about 10 minutes.

Non-Hubo Lab Koreans/non-Koreans I've met:

During lunch near the JSA, I met a couple who work for Drexel University at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, and who live in Pennsauken, NJ (I didn't get their names, unfortunately).  They were visiting Seoul for the week and, I believe, were scheduled to return to the US on 15 July.
